\nBackground:
It is estimated that there are more slaves alive today than at any other point in human history. As the body of Christ, we are called to not just be aware of what Satan is doing, but to be the hands and feet of Jesus by doing justice.
Why we are doing this:
There are women and children even in our central coast area that are being forced into prostitution and sex slavery and it is WRONG. God calls us to be obedient and fight for justice, not just talk about it. We are all made in the image of God and He values every life and wants all to come to a saving knowledge of Him! If there is something we can do and God is for us, who can be against us?
Isaiah 58: 6-8
Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
Rescue Ministry involves:

This Memorial Day weekend we’ll be combining all three of our Sunday services (9am, 11am + 6:30pm) into one big family style service at the beach. This is a day you’ll remember for a long time, as many people who’ve been transformed by the power of gospel will joyfully give witness to their new lives, by being baptized. God has always been about proclaiming his greatness by many means. Baptism is just one of the many ways in which we publicly proclaim what God’s done. Be sure to bring your beach chair/towel. \n\nIf you’d like to be baptized, do the following:
\nF.A.Q’s
\nQ. Why should I get baptized?
A. Jesus commanded that all Christians be baptized (Mt 28:19). His apostles also commanded that all Christians be baptized (Acts 2:38). Therefore, Christians should be baptized because their God and His servants command it. If you’re a believer we invite you to participate in being baptized, by publicly identifying yourself with Jesus’s death, burial + resurrection (Rom. 6:1-5). This is a beautiful opportunity to declare in the most public way that you’re committed to following Christ.
Q. Who should get baptized?
A. Baptism in the New Testament follows repentance of sin and faith in Jesus (Acts 2:38-41; 2:41; 8:12; 9:18-19; 10:44-48; 16:14-15, 40; 16:29-36; 18:8; 19:1-7; 22:16). Therefore, only Christians who have repented of sin and have trusted in Jesus should be baptized.
In summary, repentance of sin and faith in Jesus are the marks of a Christian. And all Christians are commanded to be baptized in order to identify themselves with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Subsequently, no one but a Christian should be baptized, and this excludes all non-Christians and children who are too young to demonstrate repentance and articulate faith.
\nQ: May I be baptized if I have previously been baptized?
A: Once someone has been baptized there’s no need for them to be baptized again (Eph 4:5). The only exceptions to this would be if someone was baptized as a non-Christian and desires to profess his faith and be baptized as a Christian (Acts 19:1-5). This exception would include people who were baptized in a cult, an aberrant church, or those baptized as infants at the request of their parents. Calvary SLO does not require that those who were baptized as children be re-baptized as believing adults, but leaves this decision to the conscience of each believer.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Most people wear shorts and a T-shirt. Yet, as a general rule it’d be a good idea to wear something that promotes decency. (in other words, no one wants to see a dude wearing a Speedo…you get the idea)
Q: Can I invite family and friends?
A: Absolutely. Let them know its kind of a big deal, like a birthday party, and you would love to have them there.
Q. What will it be like?
A. Preceding the baptism, pastor Bryan will share a brief message. Then those who are going to be baptized will have an opportunity to share (should they desire) what God has done in their lives to bring them to Christ. After the testimonies, we’ll lay hands of all the people and pray for them, then we’ll go down to the water for the baptisms.

Greg and Carrie Squires have helped in numerous ways at Calvary SLO. One of the areas that Greg has had a significant impact in serving the Calvary SLO family has been through his administrative giftings as one of the Elders, along with leading a Community Group. Carrie supports Greg in his role as an Elder while serving on a team of ladies who oversee a bible study for women through out the week.
\nQ: Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in on the Central Coast?
A: We both grew up in the California valley and met while we were students at Cal Poly. After graduating, we lived for a year overseas before we married and moved back to SLO. In total we have been here 11 years.
Q: When did Jesus become real in your life?
A: We both met Jesus at an early age, but started following the Lord as young adults in high school and college. We both grew the most in our faith while at Cal Poly and being involved in campus ministry there.
Q: What area of ministry are you/have you been involved with?
A: We really enjoyed leading small groups and doing life-on-life discipleship during our college years and during our 2 years on staff with Cru. We helped in the 2nd-5th grade class at Calvary SLO for a few years before we had kids and were glad we did so. Currently, Greg serves as an Elder, is on the Financial Stewardship team (non-profit Board) and also helps to oversee the Community Groups at Calvary SLO. Carrie helps with our women’s Bible studies.
Q: What are some evidences of grace that you can encourage our church family with?
A: We are continually amazed at how God provides for needs in this church. Whether it be a family illness, financial need, or a ministry need, God has been so faithful to meet these needs in the right time and right measure. We’ve witnessed first-hand how His blessings abound in this church.
We personally have been so encouraged by the outpouring of grace and love by the people at Calvary SLO. We’ve been part of community groups for years and there are countless times we’ve been blessed, served, loved, and cared for by so many people in so many ways.

I started a Relay for Life team in memory of my father, and would love if everyone in my Calvary family could pray over the event! \nHaving lost my father to cancer several years ago I know firsthand what the battle against cancer is like. I am starting a team for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life in his honor because I want to make a meaningful difference in other people’s lives that cancer has affected.
Why I Relay
I Relay for YOU and everyone you will know in your lifetime that will be affected by cancer. I Relay for your strength in your own fight and/or your strength in supporting someone else’s battle. I Relay so that perhaps one day YOU will know a world without cancer, a world in which we can celebrate more birthdays each year, so that maybe one day YOU or someone YOU love will have the opportunity to live in a world where HOPE reins. Because HOPE is unstoppable.
